Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Mystic8Ball, a fortune-and-decision novelty app for Android, collects, stores, and shares — and what stays on your device.
Overview
Mystic8Ball does not require an account, and it does not ask you for your name, email address, or any other personal identifier. Your questions, answers, and app activity are kept on your own device. The sections below cover the few things the app does send off-device: anonymous usage analytics, crash reports, and — if you consent — personalized advertising.
Data kept on your device
The following is stored locally using Android's app storage and never leaves your device unless you export or share it yourself:
- Answer history — the questions you've asked and the answers the ball gave, shown on the History screen.
- Stats — counts and streaks derived from your usage, shown on the Stats screen.
- Achievements — badges you've unlocked, shown on the Achievements screen.
- Settings and preferences — options like your chosen ball skin, sound, and notification preferences.
Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in Android Settings, permanently deletes all of this local data. We have no copy of it and cannot recover it for you.
Data collected automatically
Mystic8Ball uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand how the app is used and to catch bugs. These collect technical information automatically — this is not information you type in:
- Device model, operating system version, and app version
- General usage events (e.g. which screen was opened, which ball skin was selected)
- Crash logs and stack traces when the app fails unexpectedly
- A device identifier used to group events, not to identify you personally
This data is processed by Google/Firebase under their own privacy terms — see Third-party services below.
Advertising & consent
Mystic8Ball shows ads served through Google AdMob. On first launch, the app uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to ask for your consent where required by law — for example under GDPR in the EEA/UK, or applicable US state privacy laws. Your response determines whether you see personalized or non-personalized ads.
Depending on your consent choice, AdMob and its ad partners may collect:
- An advertising identifier (or a privacy-preserving alternative on newer Android versions)
- Approximate, IP-based location
- Ad interaction data (impressions, clicks) used for frequency capping and measurement
You can review or change your ad consent choice at any time from the app's Settings screen.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, Mystic8Ball can send you an occasional fortune notification, scheduled on-device using Android's WorkManager. This schedule is restored automatically after your device restarts, so the notification keeps working without you having to reopen the app. No notification content is sent from or through a remote server — it's generated and delivered entirely on your device. You can turn this off any time in the app's Settings or in Android's system notification settings.
App permissions
| Permission | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Internet | Loads ads, and sends anonymous analytics and crash reports. |
| Vibrate | Haptic feedback when you shake or tap for an answer. |
| Post notifications | Lets the app show the fortune notification described above. |
| Receive boot completed | Reschedules your notification after your device restarts. |

Your choices
- Ad consent — change your personalized-ads choice any time from Settings.
- Notifications — turn the daily fortune notification off in-app or via Android system settings.
- Local data — clear your history, stats, and achievements by clearing the app's storage in Android Settings, or by uninstalling the app.
- Device-level controls — reset your advertising identifier or limit ad tracking from your Android device's privacy settings.
If you're in a region with statutory privacy rights (such as the EEA, UK, or certain US states) and want to make a request regarding data held by Google/Firebase on our behalf, you can also contact us using the details below and we'll help direct it appropriately.
Children's privacy
Mystic8Ball is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us and we'll remove it.
Retention & security
Local data (history, stats, achievements, settings) stays on your device for as long as the app is installed, under your control. Analytics and crash data are retained by Firebase according to Google's standard retention periods. We rely on the security practices of Google/Firebase for any data processed on their infrastructure, and we don't operate our own servers or databases for this app.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page. Material changes — such as a new data collection purpose — will also be reflected in the app's store listing.
