SmartQR ("the app", "we", "us") is a QR and barcode scanner that checks what a code contains and flags anything that looks unsafe before you open it. This policy explains what information the app handles and how.
Summary SmartQR works entirely offline. Scanned content, your scan history, and your app settings are stored only on your device. We do not operate any servers, do not collect analytics, and do not sell or share your data with third parties.
SmartQR does not require an account and does not collect or transmit:
All safety scoring (checking a scanned link for HTTPS, known shortener domains, suspicious keywords, and similar signals) runs locally on your device using a fixed set of rules. Scanned content is never sent to us or to any analysis service.
The following data is created by using the app and stays in the app's private storage on your device unless you choose to share it:

This data is not encrypted at rest beyond standard Android app-sandbox protections. If your device backs up app data to your Google account (Android's automatic backup), this local data may be included in that backup, which is controlled by your device's backup settings rather than by SmartQR. Because scanned WiFi QR codes can contain network passwords, we recommend keeping automatic device backup enabled only on devices you trust, and using "Clear History" if you scan a WiFi code you don't want retained.

Saving a contact from a scanned vCard or dialing a scanned phone number is handled by handing the request off to your device's Contacts or Phone app — SmartQR does not read or store your contacts or call log.
SmartQR uses the following on-device components from Google, which may communicate with Google's own services independently of SmartQR:
These components are governed by Google's Privacy Policy. SmartQR does not include any advertising or analytics SDKs.
SmartQR does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Since the app stores data only on-device and has no account system, no personal data is collected from any user regardless of age.
Scan history and settings remain on your device until you delete them in the app or uninstall SmartQR, which removes all app data from your device.
